Sekiguchi Sensei

Sekiguchi Takaaki

was born 20. march 1946 in Hanyu City, Saitama prefecture / JAPAN. As a grandmaster, he is called Sekiguchi-Sensei, Komei. This word consists of one byte of his name - Ko and one byte of word Meibukan - Mei, to honor his master Soke Masamitsu Onoe-Sensei. Since then, Sekiguchi lives, works and teaches Sekiguchi Komei-Soke Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iai-Jutsu and Komei Jyuku Iaido and devotes all his life and energy to spread techniques as well as philosophy of his school throughout the world.

Sekiguchi Komei-Sensei says nowadays: " Nihon Kobudo Iai-Jutsu is an art, that - when excercising with real sword - allows to develop and improve personality and battle spirit without endangering another human being. The number of people practising iaido enthusiastically is rising every day. Not only in Japan, but all around the world. It is a great source of joy, that people from all parts of the world follows the way of iai and experiencing real friendship that way." His motto: Iai Shushin – Perfecting personality by practising Iaido.

Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu - review

Not considering improvement of Iai-Jutsu and Iaido since times of Hayashizaki Jinsuke, this Ryu-Ha was formed by one of Tosa clan, 18. Soke Yamauchi (Yamanouchi). 16. Soke Goto Magobei Masasuke taught Muso Jikiden Eishin excrusively Tosa clan. 17. Soke Oe Masamichi realized, that this efficient art of the sword could be lost and started teaching Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu beyond Tosa province. H fought in Hamaguri Gomonno Ikusa, war, that took place in the end of Tokugawa era in years 1865 to 1867 in Kyoto. By fighting in this war, Soke Masamichi was able to develop great Iai-techniques.

Soke Masamichi made from many of his students masters, who were given Menkyo Kaiden, a right to teach. After Soke Masamichi's death, it was uncertain, who should be his legal succesor and 18. Soke, because Soke Masamichi himself did not establish his succesor. Schools Ryu-Ha were founded and nowadays 3 Soke for 3 branches of Muso Jikiden Eishin exists.

Jako jediný přímý potomek klanu Tosa (Yamauchi byli Daimyo v provincii Tosa), postoupil v hierarchii na místo 18. Soke Yamauchi Toyotake v Ryu-Ha, která byla v tu dobu vedena jako Iai-Jutsu a která zůstala v této podobě zachována dodnes. Soke Yamauchi publikoval Iai Shousetso, dílo, v němž zdůraznil principy Tosa Iai-Jutsu.

19. Soke Kono Kanemitsu founded Meibukan, Dojo in Toshima-ku in Tokyu, where only traditional Tosa Iai-Jutsu with live blade (Shinken) was taught. 20. Soke Onoe Masamitsu established Sekiguchi Takaaki as 21. Soke.
